Fashion houses go up a few sizes

By: Elisabeth Butler Cordova Hotline and James Perse Enterprises Inc., doubled their space in the Contemporary Building at 231 W. 39th St. Two fashion showrooms have doubled their space in the Contemporary Building at 231 W. 39th St., between Seventh and Eighth avenues, in the garment district. Hotline, which sells clothing brands to department and specialty stores, expanded to 6,000 square feet from 2,900 square feet. It will use about half of the additional space to display the men’s, women’s and children’s lines of Joe’s Jeans, its biggest account. “We’ll set it up the way we want the retailers to do it,” says Heidi Davis, Hotline’s president. “We’ll show off the whole lifestyle.” The company signed an eight-year lease for the entire space. James Perse Enterprises Inc., a California clothier, also increased its space in the building to a total of 4,500 square feet from 2,200 square feet. It signed a five-year lease. Asking rents in the building range from $40 to $45 a square foot. James Buslik, a broker with Adams & Co., represented the tenants and landlord 231 West 39th Street Associates in each deal.
